THE 4TH WORLD FORUM ON MUSIC - A GREAT SUCCESS
There is a lot of knowledge and experience to share when motivated individuals and representatives of music organisations meet to discuss music and social change, which is precisely what happened at the 4th IMC World Forum on Music from 26th September to the 1st of October. Tallinn (Estonia), the European cultural capital 2011, offered the perfect setting for this international conference, which gathered nearly 300 music actors from some 50 countries all over the world.
The plenary sessions, breakouts, workshops, project presentations and other
discussions of the Forum presented an impressive variety of different theoretical
and practical approaches to the topics concerning music and social change
conveyed by participants and speakers. Joe Lamond demonstrated how music
education and music industries should go hand in hand. Accompanied by excellent concerts, the forum also offered a good opportunity for networking that was positively taken up by all participants. The burgeoning and warm atmosphere of this conference culminated in a further highlight when Youssou N’Dour addressed the conference with a keynote speech dedicated to the development of music work in Africa and the need to raise awareness of its economic power and cultural potential for the creative industries.
