IMC Musical Rights Awards

Launched in 2009, the IMC Musical Rights Awards are given to programs or projects that support in an exemplary way one or more of the five musical rights enunciated by the Council:

• the right for all children and adults
     - to express themselves musically in all freedom
     - to learn musical languages and skills
     - to have access to musical involvement through participation, listening,         creation, and information

• the right for musical artists
- to develop their artistry and communicate through all media, with proper facilities at their disposal
- to obtain just recognition and remuneration for their work

PURPOSE

These awards intend

to offer strong recognition and reward to programs and projects that give exemplary support to one or more of the musical rights
to make the opportunity to promote the five musical rights and IMC’s commitment to them
by presenting and describing these exemplary programs and projects, to encourage IMC members and other organisations to give active support to the musical rights
to increase IMC’s value to its members.

INAUGURAL AWARDS
The Awards were launched by the IMC in 2009 to strongly voice its determination in advancing these five rights. The inaugural IMC Musical Rights Awards ceremony took place on 18th October 2009 during the 3rd IMC World Forum on Music in Tunis. The overall winner of the first IMC Musical Rights Awards was Freemuse - The world forum on music & censorship (Denmark). Other 2009 winners were Musical Programme of the Centro Andino para la Educación y la Cultura -CApEC (Argentina) and the Revival of Music Education in Afghanistan project. More on the 2009 Awards

Musical Rights Awards 2011

It is with great pleasure that IMC stages the award-giving ceremony of the 2011 IMC Musical Rights Awards in the framework of the 4^th World Forum on Music in Tallinn, on September 27, 2011.

The Awards will be presented to one overall winner and two second winners. Three other projects will receive a Special Commendation.

The ceremony will be include performances by the Belgian jazz trio De Beren Gieren. More on the trio.
